Four divisions, twelve teams from across the Carolinas and beyond, and one great weekend of tournament hockey at the Carolina Ice Palace — a look back at the 2026 Charleston Hockey Classic.

With the Carolina Ice Palace division playoffs well underway, we take a break from our regularly scheduled programming to look back at the 2026 Charleston Hockey Classic — one of the longest-standing tournaments and most treasured events in Charleston hockey.

For one weekend in April, teams from across the Carolinas — and even north of the border — descended on Charleston for a weekend of competitive hockey, cold beers, old friendships, new rivalries, and the kind of atmosphere that makes tournament hockey special.

And the 2026 Classic delivered.

Four Divisions. Twelve Teams. One Great Weekend.

The tournament featured four competitive three-team divisions, with teams coming from Charleston, Columbia, Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Knoxville, Myrtle Beach and even Montreal.

The divisions included:

Elite

  • Victorious Secrets
  • Puckers
  • Knoxville Knights

Gold

  • Hellhounds
  • Nordiques
  • College of Charleston

Senior B

  • Syndicate
  • Montreal
  • Scarlett Bar Ice

Silver

  • Holy City Yeti
  • Staunch Hockey
  • Jackalopes

Each team played a three-game round robin, including crossover games between Elite and Gold and between Senior and Silver. The format created competitive matchups throughout the weekend while giving teams an opportunity to play opponents they don’t normally see during their regular seasons.

The top teams then advanced to Sunday’s championship games.

Championship Sunday

After two days of round-robin hockey, the tournament came down to three championship games and one unusual ending in the Gold division.

The Nordiques ultimately took home the Gold championship, defeating the Knoxville Knights in the Gold-Elite Challenge after the Hellhounds — who had won their bracket — elected to forfeit the scheduled Gold final. The Hellhounds had defeated the Nordiques the previous night, making for one of the stranger conclusions to a tournament division, but both teams had put together championship-caliber weekends.

The remaining championship games capped off an outstanding weekend of hockey, with the tournament producing exactly what it was designed to create: close games, competitive divisions and meaningful hockey from Friday night through Sunday.

There was a little drama along the way — because apparently even adult recreational hockey tournaments require a plot twist — but everything was ultimately resolved and the weekend finished on a high note.

More Than Just Hockey

The Charleston Hockey Classic has never really been about simply determining who gets to take home a trophy.

It’s about bringing hockey players together.

It’s about teams traveling to Charleston, competing hard for an hour, shaking hands afterward and then spending the rest of the weekend enjoying the city together.

It’s beers with the boys after the game. Families and friends in the stands. Running into players you’ve known for years. Meeting teams you’ve never played before. And waking up Saturday morning wondering why scheduling three hockey games in one weekend seemed like such a good idea.

That’s tournament hockey.

And that’s the Charleston Hockey Classic.

The 2026 tournament brought together an incredible group of players, teams, families and friends, and we’re grateful to everyone who traveled to Charleston and helped make the weekend such a success.

We’re equally grateful to the Carolina Ice Palace and its staff for hosting the event and helping accommodate a full weekend of tournament hockey.

See You in 2027

Most importantly, the Charleston Hockey Classic continues.

Planning will turn toward the 2027 Charleston Hockey Classic, and we’re looking forward to welcoming returning teams, new teams and hockey players from around the region back to Charleston for another weekend on the ice.

If 2026 was any indication, we’re in for another good one.
